Was great to catch up with rap artist DUTCHBOY at the recent sneak preview of HOW DO I LOOK ( www.howdoilooknyc.org ) - the film features some of his music. A while back, here at URBAN PRODUCTIONS recording studio, D-BOY and crew layed down raps, vocals & effects on four new Rainbow Flava tunes. One of the songs "OKAYPLAYA" has been included on the Rap compilation CD "The Dozens". Another of the four is set to appear on the successful "Dozens" sequel - "The Dozens 2".

in the Arts & Entertainment section of this month's issue of EQUAL

Thanks to photographers Terry Mola, Jason Schnuderman, The Fairfield
County Press, The Pink Triangle, JD Doyle, Rozeanne Gates, The Westport
News, Bridgeport Post, etc - who took live-in-concert photos of our URBAN
PRODUCTIONS BOLDLY PRESENTS Concert series this summer - check out their
great pics of our shows at www.roberturban.com
1. Thanks so much to radio guy JD Doyle for the awesome FOUR CD set (boxed -
like Proust!) - capturing 4 different shows from our URBAN PRODUCTIONS all gblt
concert series last June in NYC. JD recorded the shows live from the
audience, and used the beautiful photos he took of the artists live onstage for
the CDs' nifty cover-art. A true labor of love,
a great memento and a phenomenal GLBT live CD compilation, capturing some very
special performances. These will go up on the studio wall for sure.
2. Thanks so much to Julie Nicolay for the special photos she took at our
Connecticut show. I've added these to all
the others sent in by friends & fans on the www.roberturban.com
website's BOLDLY PRESENTS concert pages.
3. Hot off the press! - I just got my own copy of MIKE JAMES's debut CD of
13 songs, entitled FINDING. Mikey blew into the studio last month,
like one possessed, and in one Dionysian whirlwind night session we
recorded seven of the songs,
often making parts & grooves up on the spot. This exciting sense of
creativity, immediacy and fevered inspiration can be
heard right on the CD - by far Mikey's finest singing to date. I dare say -
this exciting young artist has found his voice. For more info, contact
Mike James via his mikejames21@yahoo.com
I don't know his website's url.
4. What a joy - at the recent Hartford, CT Pride Fest to have our
band play right between two of my fav heavy rock groups - THE ECHO JANES and
SISTER FUNK. These pros make rock the old-fashioned way - they PLAY it!!!!
Beyond their place in the women's and/or GLBT music scene, they are keeping
alive something very special & endangered in rock music -
and will hopefully run with it! - WAS THAT A GREAT SHOW OR WHAT!!!
thanks and congrats to all -

orchestral score by Robert Urban and songs by a variety of gay male artists,
already available on VHS, will be released on DVD this fall - and include a
"play music only" feature on the DVD - makes a great gay male rock
compilation CD.
LOL - last but not least - am hard at work producing the brand new 2002 Robert
Urban CD - Heartfelt thanks to all nyc musical colleages who offered gigs
this month - Sorry I had to turn so many down - but I gotta lay low to focus on
production & studio work. Will be back in live-land soon. It's
great to see other glbt artists creating real professional performance
opportunities for musicians.

Freedman Updates
Violent Yodel Productions |
CHARLESTON, SC-September 17, 2002 - A recent winner of both OUTMUSIC and
STONEWALL SOCIETY music awards, 23-year-old bisexual activist and
singer/songwriter, Skott Freedman, heads "down under" next month to
tour Australia. Freedman will hit Melbourne, Sydney, Noosa, and Brisbane in his
three week international tour with featured
performances at the Sydney Gay Games, the Sydney Opera House, Melbourne's
Midsumma Fest "Sprung", and more. This year Freedman holds the honor
of being the youngest American to perform at the Gay Games.
Freedman will be a guest performer at the Gay Games 20th Anniversary
Celebration, "Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow", presented by the
Federation of Gay Games at the Sydney Opera House on Sunday, November 3rd, 2002.
Freedman is also scheduled to be the keynote performer and guest speaker at the
7th International Conference on Bisexuality in Sydney on Saturday, October 26th,
2002.
Freedman recently began his fall tour in the United States, headlining pride
festivals in Connecticut and Georgia and once again touring college campuses.
Before heading to Australia, Freedman will perform and lecture at universities
in New Hampshire, Iowa, North Carolina, California, New Jersey, and Maine.
Freedman, now residing in Charleston, South Carolina, is currently speaking and
performing at colleges and pride festivals across the country. He has conducted
various workshops and activities centering on awareness and acceptance of
bisexuality. In 2000, Freedman began publicly speaking on bisexuality in
response to the growing biphobia that has unfortunately become present in the
LGBT community. This speaking has developed into his powerful lecture,
"Battling Biphobia and Bringing Bisexuals Back to Both Communities",
concentrating on breaking down common stereotypes and advocating for acceptance
of bisexuals within the LGBT community.
Freedman has since become one of the most popular speakers on college campuses
due to his unique presentation mixed with humor, insight, wisdom, and
empowerment. He has been invited as a guest lecturer at several renowned
institutions including the University of Pennsylvania, Kansas University,
Michigan State University, Virginia Tech, and more. Freedman has appeared on NBC
News, ABC's "Daybreak", international radio program "This Way
Out", and in national publications such as Billboard Magazine and The
Guide.
Freedman recently headed back into the studio to begin work on his next project,
SOME COMPANY, due out early 2003. The young prodigy's fourth release will
feature all new songs and his early roots of solely voice and piano.

Contact: Artists Against AIDS / 415.674.1582 / press@artistsagainstaids.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE International Jazz Soulstress Jacqui Naylor Records
& Performs "I Remember You" for – Los Angeles Jazz Scene |
"Jacqui Naylor has the ultimate momentum of becoming the next big thing. We’ve all heard of Norah Jones but this is stronger, deeper, sexier." – Amazon.com
Fast-rising vocal star, Jacqui Naylor, has just finished recording an original song for this years World AIDS Day/Day Without Art in remembrance of those lost to HIV/AIDS and to bring attention to the prevention/education efforts of Artists Against AIDS.The song was written by the artist’s dear friend, Joe Wilson, who has been living with HIV/AIDS for nearly 15 years. Wilson uses his diverse talents as songwriter, producer and promoter to educate and increase awareness of the disease by using his own personal experiences of loss, illness, poverty and even homelessness for prevention & education. Joe is also the founder of Artists Against AIDS in San Francisco. "Joe and I chant and do prayers together every day as part of our Buddhist practice. When I heard "I Remember You", which was written for his best friend who died from AIDS, I soon realized that this was only one of many friends Joe has had to bury because of this disease, I cried and knew I had to sing it. Especially in this year when everyone all over the world knows what it feels like to lose someone they love. This song spills over the heart and helps us remember how good it feels to value the most precious human life" says Naylor.
The single will be released worldwide on (or before) December 1st solely to promote World AIDS Day via Naylor’s Ruby Records Label. The artist has released two jazz recordings on this label and has just completed a third with pianist-producer Art Khu who also lends his talents on "I Remember You". The single is the first cut from an upcoming CD called "Soundtrack for the Soul" where different vocalists/bands will perform each of the 12 songs written by HIV+ Artists. The CD is expected for a spring release. "We really want to use the music to honor those who have left us and to further educate and inspire those who are still here. So much love has gone into this project and it is my great benefit to have such heartfelt and talented musicians bring it to life." says Wilson. The objective of the Artists Against AIDS CD Project, is to educate, inspire and help keep HIV-Positive Artists working and contributing. "We’re trying to develop ways to let artists tell their stories and continue their work and hopefully, educate in the process."
Jacqui Naylor performs at the Plush Room in San Francisco – December 3-7 with her trio featuring Art Khu on piano, Devin Hoff on bass and Emiliano Benevides on percussion. Opening night, December 3rd honors World AIDS Day and Artists Against AIDS which includes special guests and a remembrance celebration. The show is at 8pm nightly and admission is $25 (please contact us directly if you are on limited income/disability and wish to see the show). The Plush Room is located at 940 Sutter Street in the York Hotel. For tickets or more information on the show, please call 415.885.0750 or www.jacquinaylor.com
The CD single is available online (www.artistsagainstaids.com) and Ruby Records is donating a substantial amount of singles to non-profit and educational organizations around the globe.
