Essential Oils - P

Peppermint oil- (Mentha piperita) the oil is steam-distilled from the partially dried leaves and flowering tops of the Mitcham mint. English peppermint is reputed to be of the best quality although, together with French peppermint, it is more costly than the American oil, which has a sharper aroma. The coolness that comes from peppermint oil is from the presence of menthol. which is useful in making cosmetics and body-care products. Peppermint oil is extremely useful when you are hot either from a hot fever, hot flashes, or just hot weather. Inhaled it cools a fever, decongests the sinuses, calms the mind, soothes a headache, acts as an antidepressant, stimulates the nervous system and mind, also calms the tendency for your mind to race along. Externally it is used as an antiseptic to wounds and sores (use diluted). Internally, it has a proven reputation to cure nausea and vomiting (1 drop on a sugar cube is slowly sucked, or 2 drops in 8 ounces of water is sipped). Peppermint is also good for flatulence. Drink the 8 ounces of water with 2 drops of peppermint oil and the smell will not be bad. If I have an upset stomach the same recipe works for that. Caution: Do not use more than 2 drops of peppermint in a bath if the skin is sensitive.

Petitgrain oil: is steam-distilled from the leaves and twigs of Citrus aurantium amara. This oil is used in many body-care products more often as a blending ingredient rather than for it's tonic or cleansing ability. Petitgrain is used to refresh the senses, clear confusion. reduce mental fatigue, reduce depression and as a tonic scent, as it is uplifting and refreshing.

Pine oil - comes from the steam-distillation of different Pinus species. When the Pine wood is used it is called Turpentine, and when the needles are used it is called Pine Needle oil.

Internally, Pine oil is used for all sorts of infections including respiratory, urinary and intestinal. You want to use an infusion of the Pine needles in water, not the oil itself. Externally, Pine oil is good to stimulate blood circulation for arthritic pain. Inhaled, Pine needle oil is good as an antiseptic for the respiratory tract. and to soothe mental stress and relieve anxiety.

Pine oil is antiseptic, kills germs, is anti-inflammatory, refreshing, deodorizing and stimulating.
