Essential Oils - L
Lavender - this oil is the best loved and universally popular oil, often referred to as the essential essential oil'. It is difficult to obtain a genuine unadulterated lavender. The best lavender comes from France, though a good quality oil can be obtained from Bulgaria and Yugoslavia. Lavender is frequently adulterated through the use of Lavandin. Lavandin is a very hardy plant, a hybrid of lavender and is rich in essential oil. The aroma is not as sweet although it is believed by some to have quite a few of the therapeutic properties of lavender.
Lavender has a healing effect on disorders of practically every system of the body. It's most renowned attributes are it's ability to promote rapid healing, and the pain relieving ability of the oil when used, for example, immediately after a burn. It is helpful for stress, depression, headaches and insomnia; it both relaxes and tones muscles, is beneficial in many respiratory disorders and of course is a great healer for skin problems of many kinds.
Lemon oil: is expressed from the peel of the lemon, Citrus limon. To get 1 pound of oil 1500 lemons are needed. Lemon oil is one of the most useful of the essential oils and should have a place on everyone's shelf. Externally indications are for gargling for sore throat, tonsillitis, nosebleed, mouth inflammations, skin sores and acne, infected wounds, first-aid remedy for insect bites, insect repellent for such as ants and moths, and added to drinking water to purify.
Lime oil: it can be used the same way as Lemon oil and blends well with Lemon oil. Inhaled, the oil may stimulate the muscles around the eye.
