Essential Oils - G

Geranium - this essential oil has a sweet, fresh floral scent and is well known for it's relaxing and uplifting properties. The highest quality geranium used to come from the Bourbon Islands, but some geranium oil from France has a comparable aroma. Egyptian and Chinese oils are less expensive and the aroma is a little sharper.

Geranium has cleansing and healing effects on the skin and is useful also for menstrual disorders. Geranium is indicated for the following conditions - anxiety, depression, urinary infection, skin dryness, eczema, and dermatitis.

Ginger oil is steam-distilled from the rhizomes and roots of Zingiber officinale. Ginger is used in perfumes to give them warmth'. Smelling Ginger oil will make one's mouth water, so it is good to use with someone that is anorexic. Fresh oil is a greenish yellow and over time it turns darker. Take one drop in a glass of Ginger Ale to relieve gas pains or for flatulence. You can also make a compress to reduce fever and pain, because, it stimulates the system.

Taken internally, Ginger oil is good for diarrhea, stomachache, or over-eating that causes painful digestion. Mixed in a glass of water with Rosemary oil, you can get over jet lag.

Externally, Ginger oil is good used in compresses for arthritis or rheumatism or chest pains from a cold or the flu, sore throat, or swollen glands.

Inhaled, Ginger oil eases confusion and warms the mind.

Paul Duraffourd in En Forme Tous Les Jours suggests the use of Ginger oil to treat aches and pains:

Mix 10 ml each of Ginger oil, Cypress oil and Rosemary oil with 5 ml of Oregano oil and 500 ml of Eau de vie. Use this mixture by rubbing it over aching joints. Use it for at least 15 days.

Grapefruit oil: It acts on the gall bladder. It is also an anti-depressant and relieves anxiety. You can also use it as a room-freshener to help eliminate cooking odors. There is also Grapefruit Seed oil. The extract is available in pill form and taken for Candida, bacterial and parasitic diseases as well as intestinal diseases that result in diarrhea, abdominal pain and fatigue. It is considered a natural alternative to pharmaceutical antibiotics.
