Art Form: Cartoon/Animation
Stefano Baratti was born in Perugia, Italy, and studied under the bottega dell'arte of painters Stelio Maria Taddei and Franco Venanti. In the United States, he continued to pursue his education in fine arts and film studies under the mentors Aram Avakian and Willard Van Dyke at the State University of New York at Purchase.
Bright, colorful and witty are just a few words to describe the talents of Stefano Baratti. His wit with the words to his images are a substantial portion of the appeal. I like bold works with lots of color, mood and movement. I think sometime the captions overpower the artwork. We are so amused we forget to take a moment to savor the art as well. I have included several images from Stefano's site but do yourself a favor and check out his collection.
Baratti's work seems reminiscent of the art from The Beatles "Yellow
Submarine" or "Sergeant Peppers", then you notice a little
Matt Groenig as well. Still Stefano brings it all together with his unique
style. Personally I very much enjoy getting Stefano's 'Image Of The Day'
email. Always a smile and a departure to a pleasant place.
The subject matter always timely and with sometimes a small amount of bite. The Baratti creations would make fantastic wall treatments, see his website for information. His bold colors and strong style combined with the wit and relevance of his work make for wonderful conversation pieces. I assure you any of Stefano's work will create a lively reaction.
treatment of current images and items bring not only a smile but a bit of
thought as well. The image to the left is an example of one of
Stefano's Image of The Day selections. You can imagination the smile when
this arrived in my email. Always as a link, Baratti does not clutter your
mail with the pics or unnecessary information.
I believe we will see a lot of Stefano Baratti in the near future. I for one will be most happy to look and enjoy his visual / esoteric art. Be aware such stimulation of the optic nerves and mind simultaneously can be habit forming.
|"I noticed that what characterizes a genuine cartoonist is his/her
initial intention to engage in intellectual pursuits, only to end up with
unforeseen comic results. The medium that, to my mind, best describes this
process is the single panel cartoon. In my work there are elements, in fact,
borrowed from mainstream or classical artistic training that often tend to
degenerate in self-mockery and/or involuntary lampooning of contemporary
society. Sometimes, what many interpret as a shortcoming, for the cartoonist is
a true revelation." Per S. Baratti
