His3 is third in Drake and Wolverton's Lambda Literary Award wining "His" series of short fiction by Gay writers. I haven’t gotten to read His 1 or 2. But I will be looking for them. His3 has 20 short stories that vary in styles and subject matter. Several of the stories leave you wanting more. Some I would like to see developed into novels.

One of my favorites is The Bank President by David Ebershoff. It’s the story of Buck. A gay man in the earlier part of the last century. He has come home to a small town in Indiana to bury his father and take over the presidency of his father’s bank. Things heat up when the man that he messed around with when they were boys growing up together, comes around. Then Buck’s lover comes from New York. Mr. Ebershoff develops his characters into believable people. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with in the future.

Another of my favorites is Home Improvement by Scott Allen Bowles. He brings you into the lives of a gay man, Philip, his mother, Maude and a gay man, Roger, that has a TV show about home improvements and his lover, Lance. They get into some situations that we have all worried about. What situations you may ask? You will just have to get the book to find out. This one really got me laughing.

There were a few that left me hanging. I got the feeling of why did I read this or why did they write this. There were a few that dealt with coming out, living with AIDS and some dealt with the seedier side of gay life. All in all, I would recommend this book. I can’t wait to get His4 and to get His 1 & 2. There is also "Hers3: Brilliant New Fiction By Lesbian Writers", which I haven’t read yet. That review will be coming in the future, unless one of you would like to submit your review????
