Mel Keegan Wing "Equinox" |
Book Review "Equinox" By; Mel Keegan Review By; Joe Wright / Mountman “Equinox” is the continuation of “Death’s Head”. Kevin Jarratt and Jerry Stone are co-captains on a NARC (Narcotics And Riot Control) carrier. They are fighting a war against Angel, the most deadly Narcotic known. One snort and you’re off. For Good. It sends you into a sexual fantasy quest and nothing will stand in your way. You are usually dead within a year of the first high. If you have read “Death’s Head” then you know that Kevin and Jerry are not only co-captains, but they are also lovers. Lovers, which are empaths with each other. Equinox is company that controls the mining of the gas giant Zeus. They also suspected in the manufacturing of Angel. Enter NARC! |
This is Kevin and Jerry’s first assignment after becoming Empaths and lovers. So there are lots of people that are watching them with scrutiny. Empaths are not trusted in the 23rd century. Especially, NARC Captains, which, by the way, are not to allow themselves to become involved emotionally. Sure, they can let off a little steam with each other but, not become hand-fasted. With all the talk that is going on about same-sex couples getting married today, I like the idea of ‘Hand-fasting’.
“Equinox” first debuted in 1993. I first read “Equinox” in 1995. I must say it makes a little more sense now that I have read “Death’s Head”. Don’t get me wrong is was a wonderful read on it’s own. I would suggest that you start with “Death’s Head” first. It has since been reprinted. You can go to http://www.dream-craft.com/melkeegan/home.htm to see all about Mel and Kevin and Jerry’s story. Also you can check the newest is the Kevin and Jerry saga, “Scorpio”.
