Title: One Of These Is Not Like The Other

In the world of stand-up comedy, you have those few daring comedians who put their balls on the line and push the boundaries of tact and good taste, and then there are all the others, who play it safe in the hopes of making it on The Tonight Show. On May 4 at Crackers Comedy Club, we witnessed both!

Of the 10 comedians in the line-up, only one comic had the guts to be brutally honest, which at times made some in the audience a little nervous. Although providing fleeting moments of discomfort, this comedian was able to ease the audience's pain while tickling their funny bones at the same time.

So, who is this comedian who has caused such a stir in Indy and what makes him so daring? He's Bryan Lee Emler, a slightly overweight, openly gay 27-year-old from Coshocton, Ohio, who glistened in silver sequins the moment he hit the stage.

Growing up in the small town of Coshocton, Ohio in the 1980's, Bryan had dreams of stardom. "I've always wanted to have my own TV series just like Barbara Mandrell & The Mandrell Sisters. Of course, I only have one sister with no talent, I can't sing, I can't dance, and I look horrible in Bob Mackie gowns!"

A career in stand-up comedy never occurred to Bryan until 1996 when after four years of college, and one national tour as Mr. Wizard, he soon found himself unemployed.

"It was at this time that all of my friends suggested that I try it. So with a little hesitation and a lot of drugs...just kidding about the hesitation, I wrote a horrible stand-up act. I then met up with comedian Judy Carter, who helped me refine the jokes, make them presentable to the public, and offered me a job as her opening act!"

Gleaming nothing but self-confidence, Bryan's segment of this lengthy show, left the Indy audience on their feet and begging for more. I would tell you how the show ended, but it's too shocking! You must see it for yourself the next time it rolls back to your local comedy club!
