2002 Pride In The Arts Literary Award Recipient Response

As a writer, I never fail to acknowledge my readers when they send me
heart-felt letters about my work. Some writers, even gay authors who are
the darlings of the gay media, begin to distance themselves from the very
people who make their work popular. They develop the idea that it is their
work, alone, which has propelled them to fame. But writing is an act that must always involve those who read the author's words. Without readers, an author's stories go unrealized and become so much paper smeared with ink. So I gladly and gratefully accept this award.
