"Take Another Look" Terry Christopher Review By Len Whether you call "Take Another Look" soft rock, pop, or contemporary, the end result and description should be just plain old good. Terry includes many influences and styles, ranging from Burton Cummings to Boy Bands to Ricky Martin. He does it all with flair and style. Leaving few stones unturned Terry shows his abilities in many areas, a great feat for a debut CD. This man has range motion, and talent. His vocal skills, his lyrics, and his choice of collaboration, all show promise and professional knowledge. Aided by Michael |
LaGennusa on all mixing and engineering the completed result is smooth, justified, and well joined.
"Take Another Look" Opens strong with "Going Going Gone". An up tempo piece about a break up. A slightly different twist in that the focus is on moving on not the relentless groan of "missing." Of course Terry does deal with the anger, the disappointment of dishonesty and the gender specifics. A total of ten tracks are included, and all well worth the listen. The CD is structured to bring the listener to specific levels. This of course enhances the experience as you are taken on a musical voyage with some seeming purpose. I do not mean to say the lyrics are necessarily related, it is the feel, tempo, and sound which creates the journey. One which ends all too quickly.
There is something here for most. Be it up tempo "danceable", relaxed smooth emotions, or the heat of Latin influence. Terry brings it all on to provide us a broader and more encompassing look into his talent and potential. "Freedom Love Love Freedom" has bit of a Billy Joel feel with some Burton Cummings like sound quality. The lyrics....strong and to the point/s, both good and bad. "And There You Were", one of the most expressive and beautifully done love songs I have heard in a while is yet another leg on the Terry Christopher musical journey. Title track, "Take Another Look" again Terry's unique presentation of "moving on". He has a strong and most pleasant ability to bring the justification and empowering emotions to mind in dealing with relationship ends and troubles. The CD closes with Terry's tribute/reaction to the happenings of 9-11, "Friends And Hero's". Not the over done type, more reflective and specific, one of the few 9-11 songs which for me do justice.
All in all a great listen and even better replay. The more you listen the more Terry's lyrics become obvious. And here is one of the major treats in the CD. The poetry of the music, the word. Those words which are brought to musical success. It seems the overall CD is geared for cross acceptance. Much in the same fashion the new CD by Shania Twain has musically attracted attention from more than one genre. Bravo Terry Christopher! A talent to watch.
