"All Six Senses" CD Review
Reviewed by: Len Rogers

It is quite obvious from the beginning that the title, "All Six Senses" could well be referring to the amount of herself Robin Renée has fused into her latest CD. The unmistakable voice, the power, the guitar all there. But there is more, much more. Robin's excellent rock based style combined with her exciting ability to deliver a message, are here, but still there is more. The entire CD encompasses a connectivity and exploration of self realization, fulfillment,  and especially the completeness and complexities of love. More focused on happiness than frustration and or anger, "All Six Senses" brings a relaxing and yet invigorating energy to the listener. Use of a form of chanting called Kirtan bring a magical and mystic feel

as well as a unique warmth to the music. There is a spiritual, not to be confused with religious, feel to the CD. There is a building of theme and direction which enhances each song and brings an underlying bond to the overall work.

Robin gives credit to producer Scott Mathews and his complete understanding of what she was looking to achieve. Indeed he has brought a confident presentation to the  CD. A wonderful cover of Nick Lowe's "Cruel to be Kind" is a fine addition to the eleven original songs. There is also a sense of humor here as well, more heard in the music itself than the lyrics.

The diversity of style and sound are also a most pleasant surprise. Influences like idol Elvis Costello are made clear on "Thursday Morning Afterglow," other more subtle like Harry Nilsson and Eric Burdon WAR, add flavor and a warm smile to the experience of "Chant". "My Bride" a song about both a male and female bride delivers a strong and beautiful message of total desire. The vocally rich with visual graphics "I Skate Alone" is haunting, tender, and touches deep with familiar themes. Closing the CD is "Holy River, a song with international feel and again the underlying spiritual and mystic feel.

All in all a CD which will not be easily categorized. But then that also describes the unique sound and talent of Robin Renée.
