IMRU "I Was Wrong" CD cover and link to Joe Phillips website. Joe Phillips
Review By: Len

In the last issue we discovered the website for the animated IMRU. Which is the art creation of accomplished artist Joe Phillips. The IMRU, "I Was Wrong" CD cover to the left is but one example of the imaginative Mr. Phillips. Sometimes a little, Tom Of Finland, sometimes a little Norman Rockwell, sometimes some of each. However, always entertaining, vibrant, and with a slightly raw edge. Joe Phillips is known to comic book lovers, his background includes; DC Comics, Now Comics, Innovation Comics, and XY to name a few. Obviously Phillips' talent in the comic realm is well established. His ventures into other genre's of visual arts are equally as compelling.

The various forms which Joe Phillips' art takes is challenging  and unique. Photography, painting, drawing, magnets, calendars, dolls, and more. All neatly accessible from Joe's well done website. An example, on right, of Joe's photography, is but one example of Phillips' ability to feel through the lens. Images stark to imaginary, combine with shadow, light, color, and pose to create a photographic tapestry of work. A visit to Joe's website can take a while. There is much to see and do. I especially enjoyed the dress-up magnet demonstration. Attractive and a great conversation piece. That is if they ever quit playing with it. I showed it to a few friends and lost total use of my PC for a while. So be prepared to stay and enjoy the time.
A portion of the appeal in Joe Phillips work is his ability to bring very realistic and human expression to his animated characters. As with "Girls Will Be Girls" to the left, the expression is like the Archies meet Norman Rockwell. A great and unique combination which brings exciting and unique flavor to Joe's work. His calendars are frame worthy works of art in themselves.

You will also find that owning a Joe Phillips piece of art is easily accomplished, and priced for wide appeal and accessibility. With many choices in style, medium, object, and use there is something for all. The best way to experience the excitement of Joe Phillips art is to take a leisurely visit to his website. While there you will learn more about him, upcoming projects, and of course getting your own Joe Phillips creation!
