Eric
Himan It seems appropriate to me that this review and Eric's listening show all premiere on the 4th of July. "Gracefully" has much in common with a holiday fireworks display. You hope going in that you will be entertained. Once the entertainment begins you are ah'd and oh'd, caught up in the spirit, and in the end it all comes together with a finale which encases the entire event. That pretty much describes a listen to Eric Himan's "Gracefully" as well. The passion, number of topics, along with a wide range of emotion which Eric brings to "Gracefully" is just as powerful, touching, and memorable and any fireworks display this listener has seen. |
"Gracefully" is Eric Himan's current CD. Also one which was fan sourced. You will immediately notice many new things about this project. "Gracefully" finds Eric at the piano with accompaniment by a full horn section. Joined by some well know talent, such as drummer Brandon Holder (on loan from Leon Russell’s band) and bassist Matt Hayes (Wayne Newton, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey). "Gracefully" is basically a year in the life of a sensitive and feeling artist. A very busy and intense year. Eric Himan shares it all, opening up with listeners and laying bare for everyone to share. That Himan has delved so deep and shared so much with honest emotion and heart grabbing lyrics is testament to the artist's talent and integrity.
"Gracefully" opens with "Red Hot Tears", fueled with a Latin touch and fiery lyrics. You know right away this is something special. Following songs deal with issues like a supposed good friend, a lover who can sleep during an argument, pleasing the hard to please, being everything, a real hero, and the title track, "Gracefully" an ode to Eric's Grandmother who raised him to, "live life like you taught me: Gracefully.” Included is the powerful “Waiting for Thunder.” Which is inspired by Malala Yousafzai, the 14-year-old Pakistani student shot by the Taliban for promoting girls’ education.
By the end of "Gracefully" you will know Eric Himan for the involved and caring artist he is. You will also know him for his talent with a lyric which can touch the heart. For music which weaves his message into a personal memory. A brave new step and powerful CD, "Gracefully" is in my opinion Eric Himan at his best!
