CD Review "Once More" By: Christopher Clarke Halogen Entertainment 2004 Review by Len Rogers Catchy retro pop influenced lyrics and tunes bring a myriad of emotions to mind, amusing to starkly serious. However all queer and related to a queer life. That life mostly belonging to |
singer-songwriter, actor, director, and screenwriter Christopher Clarke. By the artist's own words, "Once More is about Gay/Queer life, many of the songs represent experiences in my own life." Eleven generous tracks complete the musical journey of "Once More". All true to the artist's goal and target subject. Christopher deals with more real "gay/queer" life than in your face political songs. You will hear about an office crush, a favorite place, and longing to name a few topics caught by Clarke's apt talent.
"Once More" open with "The Answer's No" a lyrically deep song with an open French cafe sort of feel. This is one of Christopher's strength's, creating feel with with his emotional and visual musical offerings. "LA Nights" is a reflection of Clarke's memories of and delights found in Los Angeles. "Try As I Might" my personal favorite, is a delightful tale and take on a queer office crush. Including issues like age, confidence, and position. Two songs from Halogen Entertainment films are included as well. "Timeless", and "Fraternity". Having seen both films I was delighted to have the music present on "Once More".
Love songs are of course a part of the CD. Songs like, "As Long As It Takes", Come back To Me, and It's A Chance I'll Take" fill the void and bring the love themes to "Once More" Not wailing angst, again more realism purveys with songs geared to what one might actually experience rather than the media induced norms. Introspect and thoughtful, "When Your World Falls Apart" is touching and lingers on the mind pleasantly. This is but a sampling of the delights of Christopher Clarke and "Once More". See the visual forms of several of the songs at Halogen Entertainment website to watch the videos.)
