"Private Wars"
Zrazy

Review by: Len

"Private Wars" is jazz, the stuff  New Orleans cries for. However, this Irish group is far from the Big Easy. Hot, sultry, and served up with  the sensuous style of Maria Walsh vocals and Carole Nelson on Saxophone. This CD lingers and rolls around in the soul long after the last song is over. Eleven original tracks and two covers, this is strong talent and huge enjoyment.

The combination of Walsh vocals, Nelson's Sax, Myles Drennan on piano,

Geraint Roberts - Double Bass, and Andrew Bold on drums is an amazing collaboration of talent and artistic concentration. Total cooperative effort without the contrite strains of competition flow into one smooth but smoldering experience. The two covers, "God Bless The Child", and "Night And Day" are classics brought to life with renewed vitality and depth. Walsh and Nelson are so musically in tune sometimes you must listen closely to hear when the voice stops and the sax begins.

Zrazy uses subject matter to reinforce the sensuality of the Jazz they create. On all topics the feel is compelling and as with great jazz, enticing. Taking the issue to the bed is an area jazz does best and Zrazy doesn't miss the opportunity with "Remember (That You Did It First With Me), and "Ecstasy". For that matter Zrazy misses no opportunities. All are taken and the listener is grateful. "God Bless The Child" is one of the best renditions I have heard.  A must for any jazz enthusiast, a plus for us all. Get your copy and learn more about Zrazy at their website.
