"Bridge To Atlantis" Kevin Hannan Review by: Len      Classifying "Bridge To Atlantis" or Kevin Hannan in a singular genre is the only difficult part of this review process. The listening and enjoyment are not only easy but very pleasurable. Pop/rock influenced with I sense a robust jazz under current make for interesting and unique music. Add to that strong clear vocal talent with range and emotion, you have Kevin Hannan. A Poet before musician, the attention to detail within the lyrics is testament to Hannan's talent. The detail is however not overlooked with the

music either. Masterfully accompanied, and professional production enhance an already rich tapestry of work.

      Styles of music change with the tracks of the CD itself. This is intriguing and compels you to take a deeper listen. Further into the thirteen songs you realize the uniting theme here is Hannan's own explanation, "blind ambition". Initially you may think themes vary from broken relationships to broken careers, not so, look deeper. Kevin consistently keeps the theme alive.  Changes in musical approach and that Hannan does require thought keep the interest high and the enjoyment flowing. Opening title track, "Bridge To Atlantis" deals with dream chasing, sometimes knowing the reason, frequently without that understanding at all. Pop/rock style with good backbeat and jazz flavor create mood and musical depth. 

    "Mrs. Magazine" and "Madman" deal with the same underlying theme of "blind ambition" however, more precisely I clearly heard a message of 'careful what you wish for' as well. The lyrics of both songs support both ideologies.  In "Mrs. Magazine" a successful writer finds success only to find that same success a stifling experience. In "Madman" one who finds love runs away from the complexities to a more anonymous big city scene. "Madman" has a definite rock tone, not relatable to another musician, unique and Hannan's own. "Mrs. Magazine" carries a more haunting tone, with rock influence in it's purest form. The expressive character and talent of Hannan's vocals set the tone and feel for these songs in very different ways. Another example of Kevin's ability to bend musically and vocally with his work.

     Overall it is Kevin Hannan's vocal delivery which held my attention. His chameleon like ability to literally bend his voice to enhance the lyrical message is amazing. He goes from an aching deep soul felt cry in "Far" to country touched pop style reminiscent of Paul Simon in "It'll Be Alright". The range in between could and does fill a chasm. Thoughtful and thought provoking lyrics with strong visualizations are delivered with voice which shapes itself to the music and words. A great listening experience, and an artist who I am sure, will be making a strong mark in the world of music.
